Listers: I received today the 3rd issue of this year's Diamond. Again a superb job was done in putting it together and I found it quite enjoyable. Some observations and questions: 1.) Did anyone notice on the back cover picture of U25B #2513 that the loco had two different number boards (probably Paul did)? Any elaboration on the boards and their derivation (Paul?)? 2.) In Arthur Erdman's 'Derailment on Moodna Viaduct', he mentions a freight symboled as 'BT Man'. What does 'BT Man' stand for and what was it responsibilities? He also mentions a location on the line as 'BC'. Where was 'BC' and is it's name derived from something or just named that way? 3.) As to the question of who should supply content (both written and photo), my opinion is that we should strive for a publication that is of the highest quality and accuracy as to the operations, history, people, practices, etc. of the three roads and this can only be achieved by using the best and most descriptive content available to us. Therefore, I think the editorial decisions should be directed by what provides the best description and insight as to what transpired on the 3 railroads covered by the ELHS. Compromising this to allow only members' submissions is very short sighted. We should receive the best impression, description and insight into our rr's. This is not to say, however, that member submissions should be excluded. Rather we should use them, if they provide a fair, accurate representation of the operation of these rr's. After all, they deserve every chance for publication. Also, it would exclude a significant amount of content relevant and in many cases, the only content available. For example, a picture of notables in the history of the Erie, such as Jay Gould, the Van Swerigen brothers and Benjamin Loder, could not possibly (or so highly impossible, that for practical purposes it would be impossible) be taken by a member of the ELHS, as any photographer who would have taken these could not be a member of an organization that was formed decades later. This would hurt the mission of this fine publication and our organization. Enough of my $0.02. I welcome your comments and information. Regards, Chris PS An NS coal train went through Wellsville around 9:30 tonight (9/1). The third unit was a Wisconsin Central SD 45 #7637. Does anyone know the lineage of it? Is it possibly an ex-El unit? If not, are there any former EL SD 45 units (i.e. straight 45 units only, please! I know there are SDP's and 45-2 units still out there is service!)? ------------------------------
