After I sent that message about the Lackawanna and speed I actually calculated the speed of the two trains between Hoboken and Stroudsburg: 59 MPH. Well I was wrong. I've seen pictures of TM's leading 21 which were probably running wide open to hit 60. No.3 must have ran like crazy on the cut-off to make Stroudsburg in the same time!!! Imagine standing along the track at Johnsonburg or Greendell as this train raced by. I can imagine that most people thought 21 was run for nothing when it pulled into Scranton. The train must have been practically empty dropping most of it's passengers in the Poconos. Here's a follow up question. How did this train equipment get back to Hoboken? Was it deadheaded back? It usually consisted of a baggage car, around 4 coaches and a buffet lounge. Ed Montgomery ------------------------------
