The following I posted on Father's day this year, and is from some research, passenger diagram books, Larry DeYoung's books, and the Diamond article. Hope it helps, Howard Haines ELHS #1447 From June 2004 In 1932, Erie cars #2286 and 2287 became coach-parlor-buffet cars 2998 and 2999. Car #2288 became coach-parlor car 2997. These were air conditioned between 1934 to 1938. In 1934, #2258 became an air conditioned Club car Tuxedo, #2296. In 1954, Erie 2996 and 2999 appear to have been converted to lounge-diner cars. This car later wore Erie 2-tone green (from 1954) and EL GMY after 1966. The outside of the Branchline model is similar to the outside of the EL 2996 and 2999 diner-lounge (if vents were removed, etc), that were painted in both Erie green and Erie 2-tone Green (1954). I have not completed research to determine if #2997 or 2998 wore 2-tone green or GMY. Maybe someone else out there knows for sure. In 1948 they (2997 and 2998) were rebuilt to buffet-lounge-parlor cars and 1954, 2996 and 2998 were converted to lounge-diner cars. The outside of the Branchline model is similar to the outside of the EL 2996 and 2999 diner-lounge (if vents were removed, etc), that were painted in both Erie 2-tone Green (1954) and EL gmy (1968? for 2999?) colors. H Haines Below From: Marty Obed Here is some additional info relative to Erie coaches which were later converted for various levels of "food service" (coach-buffet, parlor-diner, lounge-diner). I am omitting some specific details as I am in Alabama at the moment without my notebooks. Erie #2996 (ex-Tuxedo) served into the 1960s and in particular was often found on Trains 40 & 43 during the summer of 1965 (last year for these trains). No. 2996 kept its 2-tone green Erie scheme through scrapping. Erie #2997 kept its Erie 2-tone paint through the end of revenue service in the 1960s. Erie #2998 was repainted maroon/gray/yellow by 1965, at first keeping its 2998 number but later renumbered 752. There is a Bob Pennisi/RR Avenue Enterprises photo of Train 40 or 43 at Cresco, PA in June 1965 with an m/g/y 2998 (you can't see the number, but you can see the kitchen window side of the car). I am converting an O-scale coach to Erie #2996, a relatively easy modification which will involve the partial covering of three of the coach windows and some changes to the roof vents and underframe details.
