Wow, that's a good one, unless you are referring to the 16 hour day, as compared to 12 today. I was rudely awakened by a telephone call at Rawlins, WY my far terminal yesterday morning at 12:30 AM for a 2 AM call. I was lucky, as I got about 4 hours sleep. We ran out of time at 2 PM in Laramie, 117 miles to the east. The van showed up with the relief crew at 2:30, Cheyenne tie up at 4 PM. Compared to steam, yes it is a lot cleaner. But today's engine cabs can be unbelievably hot. The EL freight crew district from Port Jervis to Croxton was less then the 100 mile day, and that was a decent run. Unless their were operating issues, the freights would have made good time over the Erie. Likewise on the DL&W from Croxton to Scranton. Although the Lackawanna side would have paid a little more money. JJB ------------------------------
