Paul and List, In June, you inquired about E-8s making revenue freight runs after the Conrail startup. I skimmed some Railroad magazines from that era, and found the following: The September 1976 issue, in the "Trackside in the Diesel Age" column lists sightings of 831 at Sharonville (Ohio?), no date given, and "800", 810, and 831 sighted at Toledo on 22-May. Also, another unidentified E-8 passed Wilkensburg, Pa., no date given. Obviously the 800 was mis-identified by someone. The April 1977 issue has a submission from a hostler at Canton, Ohio. He had worked on a set of four EL E-8s, including 817 (no other numbers given). These units were apparently in bad shape, as only two of the eight prime movers were serviceable for an outbound train. So three identifiable units, with at least one other unit, were in freight service in the early CR days. . . Regards, John Redden ------------------------------
