I was giving some more thought to the bi-centenial year and the EL painting engines in patriotic colors. There are numerous pictures of the SDP045s but fewer of the U34 that I mentioned. The GE was renumbered "1776" and did not have the elaborate paint design and star applications that the SD's had. I think fewer people remember the "1776". I'm wondering -- where might this engine have been repainted? Could it have been at the Scranton shops? Or could the car shop at Hoboken do the job? They could do almost anything back then. Or was it painted out at Croxton? Anybody have any ideas? For a company that was faltering, EL really got into the bi-centenial spirit. I don't remember PC doing very much.
