The Hoboken Shore always interchanged with the Erie at the Hoboken/Weehawken border. The car float was never owned by the HBS, it was owned by the Lackawanna and then the EL. Originally, the float was located beyond Bethlehem Steel past 14th St. In later years (1945?), it was relocated to approximately 10th Street, immediately south of Maxwell House Coffee. I have a 1926 DL&W shippers guide that lists the HBS as a daily interchange connection via carfloat from the DL&W - a 10 block carfloat operation! I have a photo somewhere showing the EL Marine Dept. repair the float bridge in 1962-63. Perhaps a used Erie bridge was put in place or "Erie" was painted above the "Lackawanna". The bridge was out of service by the end of the HBS (1974), but for at least some time the float was active after the EL merger - enough for the above mentioned repairs to be done. What I have always wondered is if car floats operated to any other points besides the DL&W. By the way, if you have never seen this neat little railroad, take a look at Paul's website: http://hbs.railfan.net/ Tim ------------------------------
