Tim,
Sorry to take so long to answer ur post regarding having holiday rides on
the EL passenger trains. Most of my holiday rides were in the enginecab, but
occasionally I'd finish up a job early & deadhead back to Scranton to be with my
family. Sometimes I'd have the day off & travel on my pass & not feel bad
about being in with the psgrs, being in clean clothes instead of my demin jacket &
jeans I wore on duty. I took a few fotos on these happy occasions & my
favorite (altho it's not so clear) is of #1 passing #2 in a swirl of snow on the
high fill above the town of Hopbottom, Pa. I believe this was a color slide but
it may have been a print. What a memory......double track & the rear of the
Westbound #1 receding as the snow blew around it's rear car..... taken from the
small window in the door of the tavern lounge car on #2.
Some of these fotos were in a 4-page profile of my RR career that apeared
in VINTAGE RAILS Spring,1996 issue. Sure brings back memories this time of
year.
Happy Holidays to all on the EL list.
Regards,
Walter E. Smith
