RE: (erielack) Calender Photo: July 2004

Here was my caption for the shot, with additions by Bob and John Boehner (the image was originally meant to be on the front cover, but oh well):

"The raw power of three SD45s leading train NY-98 eastbound through Gouldsboro, PA in August of 1974 is quite evident in this view. NY-98 was one of the first trains to be switched over to the "Lackawanna side" of the railroad, when the Trustees for the Railway took charge and directed the downsizing of the Delaware Division, and thus the route through Port Jervis. It was always a good eastbound train with AM sunlight to photograph east of Scranton. Deadheading crews, pilots, or just crew members wanting a cab (or smoking room!) all to themselves, explain the individual in each cab in this view. The "no smoking in cab" rule didn't come about for another 25 years, and is still a hard rule to enforce. (Bob Bahrs)"
