Jon,
I believe you mean 1959 is when the DL&W started using the Erie main.
1956 was the year the Erie began using Hoboken for it's passenger
service but it wasn't until 1959 that the Southern Tier main line
consolidation finally started although it was talked about by the DL&W
and Erie for several years prior. There was an article in "The
Lackawanna" employee magazine in 1957 about the proposed consolidation
if I recall correctly.
