Well guys, the time has come to start designing a new model railroad. We're getting into the serious part of designing and building a new house (you know a railroad room with some other stuff to keep the wife occupied upstairs.) Completion target date for the house is about nine months out, so there's still a lot to do. However in the mean time, I want to collect some ideas, and perhaps pictures for points of interest on the new layout. It will be set in the mid to late 50s, as is my current layout. The area will be roughly from Owego west to Waverly that way I have an excuse to run Erie (mostly) and DLW (on the other side of the river) and have connections and trackage rights aggreements with both D&H (Owego end) and LV (Waverly end and parallel the whole way). The planned area will be quite spacious, with a main line run of 400 feet or more possible without having two parts of the main in the same scene. Now, a few questions for you folks that know: 1. What and when were the trackage rights aggreements over this section in force? 2. What were the industries, both major and minor, along this part of the line that would make interesting models and operations? 3. Where were yards and sidings located? 4. Would there be any more operational possibilities created by shifting or expanding the local toward either Binghamton or Elmira? 5. I found a picture of a glove factory that would be an easy kitbash from an AHM "Edison's Laboratory". Any ideas where it was? I think it was somewhere near Owego. 6. Where can I find an accurate map of the right of way? 7. What type of signals were used then and there? IIRC they were upper quad semaphores, but were any replaced with positional lights? If so, verticle or round targets? When? 8. What is the correct rail weight for the mains in that era? 132# (code 83) or 100# (code 70) 9. It's time to stop being pissy and re-up my ELHS dues. I miss the Diamond! Does Bob Rose still get the check? Is his address the same? Is it $30? Reply off line if you don't think any of this is relevant. Thanks and regards, Bob Clegg NMRA 17940 ELHS 3117 ------------------------------
