Re: (erielack) DL&W FT Differentiation

According to the data in Taber Vol 2, the 3-unit FT sets 601A/B/C- 604A/B/C
were built in 1945 geared for 65 mph in the freight scheme. Also built in
1945 were the 2-unit sets 651A/B-654A/B, which were geared for 45 mph for
use in pusher service. All were delivered in the freight scheme. I don't
know when they were repainted.

"The success of the road diesels lead the railroad to test one of the three
unit locomotives on the Lackawanna Limited during the summer of 1946 when
steam heat was not needed. Although limited to only 65 mph, it was able to
maintain the schedule and arrive in Buffalo on time...Shortly thereafter two
three unit diesels, No. 801-802 were ordered for trains 3, 5, 7, and
8...They arrived at Christmas 1946." (Taber Vol 2 p 647).
