Re: (erielack) Interior colors

Dear Andy,

I never rode the "Phoebe Snow" series cars when they were in service on
the DL&W, but I have been inside them in latter years and have seen a
few interior photos.

The coach seats were upholstered with "dusky rose" or "deep mauve"
ridged piqué fabric. (The upholstery was NOT DL&W maroon, even when
new). The bulkhead walls at the ends of the cars were covered with
medium-brown artificial wood grain contact paper. The ceilings and
upper walls were light tan. The floor covering was bone-colored
linoleum tile. (I'm not sure if they ever had carpet runners down the
aisles).

I wouldn't bother painting the interiors of model coaches, because the
dark green polarglass windows would make it difficult to see the
interior colors anyway. (The green windows didn't exactly enhance the
interior or exterior appearance of the prototype cars either, in my
opinion). Best modelling tip: glue a dark green strip of theatre
lighting "gel" along the window band inside the coaches, re-assemble,
and you're "ready to depart for Buffalo."

Cheers,
Alan Samostie
