(erielack) Marathon Station

If you are in the area and are planning to attend the Marathon Maple
Festival or just go for a train ride along the former DL&W S&U this
weekend, make sure you go inside the Marathon station. The have been
working on it this past winter and it will be open to the public,
complete with a "train show", during the two days of the Maple Festival.

Walter Rich and the local Historical Society have both been involved
with the restoration and it is claimed that the interior was redone "as
original". I haven't been inside yet so I can't say first hand.

Sadly the other change in Marathon was that they removed a section of
the Creamery/Station house track rail were it crosses Main Street a
couple of months ago and paved over where the track was. It is still
intact on each side of the road though, so it is now two stub end
tracks.

If you have your choice of days I would suggest Sunday since it rained
quite a bit last night and they are calling for more showers today.
Although for the most authentic flavor, the Maple Festival in the mud is
the norm. Sunday is supposed to be partly cloudy with temperatures in
the mid 30's.

If you come on Sunday and get hungry, stop by the Marathon High School
Senior Class Speedie booth, get a Speedie and say hi, I got suckered
into helping man the booth and will be there all day!

Regards,

Will Shultz
