In the later years of commuter service on the branch, that express used an E8 often as the PAs were retired.
George
Let me see what I can remember. In the Erie days E-8s were used on through
trains (Erie Limited, Lake Cities, and A&P Expresses). PAs were sometime used
on the Lake Cities. PAs also ran on some Main Line-Bergen County Expresses.
One Express to Midvale on the Greenwood Lake Division had a PA on the point
on certain days. Other times a GP-7 or RS would be used. I don't remember PAs
used on other Greenwood Lake trains including those of the Caldwell and
Orange Branches. I don't ever remember seeing them on the Newark, Northern or
NJ&NY.
As we came to the EL era and through passenger trains were discontinues, E-8s
started to be used on commuter trains. In the later years up to the
push-pulls, E-8s and GP-7s were standard power. The Alcos were gone.
Cheers,
Jack Grasso
