I believe that M$ deliberately removed their Java VM
from IE 6 and XP SP1 in
order to encourage the growth of their competing j++
and VB technologies
which
as far as I know only run under the windoze OS unlike
Java which is platform
independent.
Actually, MS was forced to create a version of Windows
XP WITHOUT their implentation of the Java Virtual
Machine.
The same court order compels MS to produce within 60
days the code to allow Sun's Virtual Java Machine to
run under XP in its native (that is Sun-written) form.
You will see another service pack in the near future
that will implement Java 2 and the current Java
Runtime Environment (JRE).
This expensive and intrusive debacle has nothing to do
with MS being spiteful.
This is an intrusion into our operating system by
government fiat(REQUIRED E-L CONTENT)not unlike the
restictive work rules and confiscatory taxation that
led to the downfall of our favorite railroad.
