Hopefully somebody on the list has knowledge of the fuel used in the boiler. If it was oil, I would guess that it was converted from coal at some point. 100 gallons of No 2 fuel oil is roughly the equivalent of 1200 pounds of coal. A lot of homes were converted to oil or gas from coal after WW 1. I believe the standard oil tank for home heating was 275 gallons if in the basement of 550 gallons if buried. The storage tank would not be needed in the shack on the bridge. The storage tank could be installed on the river bank and the fuel oil pumped directly to the boiler or to a small surge tank. ------------------------------
