I sure hope that was before World War II.  After that, the river was so 
polluted with spent chemical waste and people waste, it really wasn't 
safe to eat anything out of it.  Living in Rutherford for 28 years 
and occasionally "boating" on the Passaic, our primary concern was 
to "never fall in".
