And yet more on the Boonton Line.... This story cut and pasted from a New Jersey history website Enjoy, Kevin Olsen Wayne, NJ - ---------------- Annie's Ghost Perhaps the most famous legend in lower Passaic County is the tale of Annie's Ghost. For years, locals and teens have spun tales of the headless ghost that wanders a road on the banks of the Passaic River near Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa. There are many stories of Annie's Ghost | each more fantastic than the last. They range from a girl killed in a car accident on her prom night to a woman waiting to be picked up in her wedding dress by her husband when she's kidnapped, gang raped and decapitated by sailors. But to locals, one story has stood the test of time. Years ago, before Interstate 80 rushed thousands of cars a day over the river, the site was the location of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and surrounded by farmland. They say that Annie's parents owned a farm on what is now the Laurel Grove Cemetery. One night during a storm, Annie grabbed hold of a lantern to go feed the livestock on the farm. As she crossed the railroad, she was hit and decapitated by a passing train. Her parents, so distraught, built her a tomb on the farm, where she has rested ever since. The story says that on Riverview Drive, when the moon is absent from the night sky, if you look hard enough, you can still see the girl searching for her lost head ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
