The view is from the Garfield side looking toward Passaic. It was known locally (I grew up in Garfield) as the "Black Bridge" no doubt due to the dark color of the treated timbers. During the mid 1950's, (1954 - 1957), I can't count the number of times I rode over that trestle on the NYS&W trains working the Passaic Branch thanks to John Treen and many others who gave me the best thrills of my early teen years. The trestle was damaged during the Spring floods of 1967 (or 1968) when debris flowing down river (from right to left in the photo) piled up at the pilings and the force of that actually shifted portions of the bridge. I have slides of the shifted rails somewhere and I'll post them someday if I ever get organized. Joe K. ------------------------------
