If you look between the second and third telephone poles you'll see the crossing tower for Monroe St. After the main was pulled up, all that was left was a single track to about where the boxcars on the right are sitting ot service a meat packing plant. This meant leaving a signal there. I remember it as a kid in the 60's and into the 70's. May1956.jpg: Only a date on the picture. Notice it is the same intersection as the parade shot and the 1930's crossing. It looks like Liggett's is now some sort of Mom & Pop store, but I always remember it as the Jefferson Bakery.
