(erielack) CACV Acquires Motive Power

You can soon add two operable Alcos (MLW) to the list of engines in NY.
Today, the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley, Leatherstocking Chapter NRHS,
completed the purchase of two engines in Welland, ON. Located at Atlas
Specialty Steels, they are ex Canadian National S-4 and S-7. The S-4 is
former CN #8181 built in 1956, now #9 and the S-7 is former CN #8223 built
in 1957, now #10. They are in a faded blue scheme. The engines will become
#3051 and #3052, numbered after the last D&H S-4 #3050. Eventual paint
scheme may resemble the D&H S units of black and yellow. They will be
shipped using reporting marks CACX, and will likely go CPR via the Southern
Tier to Binghamton, and then to the interchange track in Cooperstown
Junction, NY. The two engines might be shipped separately, as #9 is in need
of wheel work before it becomes acceptable for interchange. It is unknown
whether or not that one of them will be received before the start of the
season on Memorial Day weekend; a locomotive may be leased to cover the
first few weeks of the season. NYSW #116 will be interchanged to the CPR by
May 20th. Its last passenger excursion on the CACV will be a charter on May
18th.
