I model theErie pre-merger, grew up in N. NJ., live on W. Coast (I'm 56). 
In collecting everything to see and read about the Erie and all the RRs 
to the Hudson, many of the books include the NYC metropolitan area. The 
books with lots of period pix often are abnout the subways and 
skyscrapers. For a while I even considered trying to rationalize modeling 
the Flatiron, but instead am working the Apollo theatre (home of Rock 'n 
Roll) into a token city street scene. History enriches my modeling 
experience although my primary focus is operation. ROW discussions can be 
very enlightning. I mostly just read the list, so thanks to all the 
contributors!
