Speaking of the old NY&GL, as of this week the catenary between Great Notch
on the Boonton Line and Bloomfield on the Montclair branch is energized. The
weekly Hoboken Division Summary Bulletin Order issued 12:01 a.m. Saturday has
two items stating that the wire is to be considered energized and subject to
all rules relating to catenary safety.
Work is still in progress east of Bloomfield on drainage through the cut at
Watsessing Ave and the double tracking of the junction with the Morristown
Line. All the track is in place but signal ad catenary work is still
unfinished as of today. Jack Flannery, NJT Hoboken Division Engineer, told me
Monday that the connect will open June 1st. Look for major schedule and
service changes when this takes place. No doubt this will alter many
assignments in both Hoboken and Port Morris as well as adding new assignments
based out of the new Great Notch Yard. Unconfirmed scuttlebutt reports that
intially there will be three new jobs starting there that will operate into
New York. A new station just east of the yard by Montclair State University
will replace the current one at Great Notch.
Tracklaying between Paterson(old XW Interlocking) and Paterson Jct. on the
Main Line for the double tracking project is scheduled to begin next week now
that all the bridge and drainage work is complete. Acting Line Superintendent
Dan Beirnacki told me recently that the current controled switch to the
Newark Branch will be converted to a hand thrown turnout and Paterson Jct.
will be retired. A new interlocking will be built just east of Clifton
Station.
