(erielack) SY Milepost Question

Among my paperwork I have is a list of railroad crossings along the Syracuse 
main and it gives their milepost location from Hoboken.  For example, 
Copeland Ave is the first street crossing in Homer coming from the south and 
is listed as Milepost 236.79.  Would the actual location of 236.79 be at the 
southern edge of the crossing, the middle or the northern edge?  Was 
wondering how they figured that out.
