David:  The truth is -- nobody knows!  In the '20's, the world was black and white: all existing photographs prove that.  Any record in color is some artist's idea.  Paint it any red you want, and let someone else prove you wrong.  Most railroads which painted stuff "red" used whatever was in whichever paint shop at whenever the time was that whoever decided that some "red" was THE red he wanted.

Count the rivets, if you want, but paint them anything.
