Re: (erielack) the fate of the EL



I believe that you are, for the most part, correct. The powers that be (That 
were) at Conrail, did pretty much write off the EL, it's people and it's 
trackage (Although they were very pleased with the fact that the EL had 
engines that would run. Unlike a certain major Conrail component RR with a 
rather bland color scheme...). However, the primary reason that the EL 
trackage got the short end of the stick was because the EL's trustees held 
out hope for recovery, instead of packing it in early (Along with a certain 
lack of on-line major businesses on the Marion Division and the Dayton Sub). 
The routes and the facilities to be kept by Conrail were pretty much already 
decided upon, by the time that the EL showed up for inclusion, and so, were 
considered to be superfluous by Conrail management.
