Occasionally my hometown (Dansville) paper Genesee Country Express has
historical notes from the history files of old local newspapers.  This week
of December 24th the  Wayland (NY) REGISTER reported:

That the Erie RR employed 3865 people in Steuben County, which includes
Wayland, Bath, Corning, and of course the big record holder was Hornell,
with the shops, the yards, and the Division Point crew change for three
divisions: the Susquehanna, Buffalo & the Allegheny.
