Re: (erielack) Binghamton Erie Station (was re: Erie Railroad stations & related activities)

I knew they used part of the building, but it seemed like most of it was
empty. I had no idea there was all that stuff in it. I tend not to go
wandering around on railroad property and in buildings, so never got inside.
The Tier being the backwater of the system that it was, I suppose I could
have spent weeks in there without being noticed or challenged.

The NS uses not only the new building you mention, but also has put an
office in the westernmost part of what is generally known as the Kingsley
building. They've posted part of the area in front of the building as
parking for NS vehicles only, and it is mostly occupied by MOW trucks.

Anent MOW, NS spent most of the week before Christmas replacing ties on the
Vestal spur, from Goudy Station to CP Johnson(almost said West BD!!). Looks
like they also did some tamping and surfacing, as the line now looks much
improved. Given their penchant for running 6 axle power down there-CR never
did, at least in the 14 years I've been here-this is a good thing. Now you
can almost picture a freight behind a trio of DLW F3s coming off the bridge,
heading through the back side of Johnson City...
