  Never give up on what can be done. Latest from Gene Blabey of the
Western N.Y. & Pa. which now has the former E-L line from Hornell to
Corry in its possession. The Western NY & Pa. has done some brush
cutting between Olean and Cuba, Jct., and have secured permits from the
Corps of Engineers to fix the washout along the Genesee River at
Belmont.  With the proceeds from a $1 million state grant that is now
being processed, it's the expectation that they will be able to get the
Olean to Hornell segment in operation by late spring.  There is traffic
to move (high-wide loads) from Alsthom at Wellsville starting in April.
