(erielack) NYSW_@_Stroudsburg

I had this hope someone else would answer this question since the last
time I was in Stroudsburg was in 1978 so here it goes. The NYSW came up the
opposite side of Broadhead Creek then the DLW. It crossed the Delaware a bit
up river from the Water Gap. Back then you could still see the piers on the
bank of the river. The ones in the middle of the river where gone. The
started up Broadhead Creek and just beyound the paper mill it crossed over
the DLW/EL and the creek to the other side. The old right of way could be
seen from Slides Curve.
The line came into town about one block over from the river. It crossed
the street that is the main drag through town and runs right into the bridge
across the river. I do not remember the street name after all these years
now. In the block between this street and the next was located the passenger
station. A small yard and maybe the freight house was located on some of the
land where the Big N store is. The main line continued on to Gravel Place,
crossing the river again on a bridge to connect with the DL&W. Service to
Gravel Place was begun on October 26, 1882.
The trackage to the WB&E also took off in the area of the Big N and went
to Shops. This is the big junk yard next to Rt 80 and some former railroad
building where still standing in the junk yard back in 1978, the last time I
was their.
Gravel Place continued to be a interchange point with the DL&W until
the line was adbandoned on Feb 16, 1941. Cars for points on line in New
Jersey would have been received from the DL&W until the closing of the
interchagne.
