Wow! EL Digest #333 had quite a bit of tonnage! I was looking for a "Helper e-mail" shoving on the rear end :) In reference to the photo of NYS&W caboose 0112. I will check my photos tonight for the correct number, to my amazement ConRail had an NYS&W caboose assigned to a work train operating on the NY&GL at Great Notch one day! I have a photo of it coupled to an EL switcher and some gondolas in front of the station. I asked the crew "How'd that get here?" and all I remember is that they were all very unhappy about the condition of the windowless beat up old caboose, and the fact someone sent it over the hump and dislodged the stove (Was the stove broken free when you finally got it AL???) either way ConRail grabbed an NYS&W crummy one day, and I think this one in the photo was the culprit! Here's an interesting new photo from George's web site: http://gelwood.railfan.net/frt/el-t16ary.jpg <http://gelwood.railfan.net/frt/el-t16ary.jpg> Why is there a transfer caboose in Croxton in late 1978? I thought these were retired shortly after CR took over - this seems pretty late to me? Also note the NYS&W caboose coupled at the right - again, very interesting... - Paul - -Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 04:07:57 EDT From: DLW1155_@_aol.com Subject: Re: (erielack) Odd... It sounds to me like this might be NYS&W caboose N. 0112 which I bought from the Susie-Q that year and had shipped to the Morristown & Erie Railroad where I worked at that time. It was one of four surplus hacks they advertised for sale in Railfan Magazine that year. I sold it in 1982 to Ben Friedland, the late Presdient and General Manager of the Mrristown & Erie Railway, where it remains today as their No. 4. Al Holleuffer ------------------------------
