It sounds to me like this might be NYS&W caboose N. 0112 which I bought from the Susie-Q that year and had shipped to the Morristown & Erie Railroad where I worked at that time. It was one of four surplus hacks they advertised for sale in Railfan Magazine that year. I sold it in 1982 to Ben Friedland, the late Presdient and General Manager of the Mrristown & Erie Railway, where it remains today as their No. 4.
