RE: (erielack) Another "what if": EL GP15-1 ?



The EL definitely had both on order, GE's order almost made it to the paint
shop, but from what I understand, the order was cancelled, new trucks were
applied (FB-2 instead of AAR-B), and they went to the L&N instead.

By the end of the EL, the GP35s were already doing more local work, and were
becoming common on some local freights. The days of the hotshot freights
were over for them. Plus, the RS3 re-engining program would have effectively
put enough units into service that new low-horsepower diesels wouldn't have
been necessary... Don't forget, the GP7s were still running strong, and the
30+ "new" units (U23B and GP38-2) would have helped drive the GP35s down to
local service as well.
