Dear list,
Having returned from the annual meeting at Marion, late yesterday
afternoon, let me be among the first to congratulate Rich Tubbs and all
of the Marion gang for the GREAT job they did organizing and putting on
this affair.
In particular, a large round of applause is due to George
Detwiler and Pete White for the job they do with AC Tower. These guys
made it so enjoyable to see the facilty "in operation". I had a hard
time remembering that it was not really still connected to the signals
and switches outside the tower.
Thanks to Joe Slanser for his open house to view his layout.
Great job as one would imagine.
Another session that was memorable was the round table discussion
held Saturday afternoon. It was so enjoyable to hear the veterans of the
EL tell the stories of the good old days. I could have sat there for
many more hours listening to these. I hope that in some way these pieces
of history are being recorded and saved, as I'm sure they could fill a
large book that none of the fans of our favorite railroad will want to
put down.
The dinner, Saturday night, was outstanding. And the slide show
after that was, as usual, great.
Mother Nature cooperated as well with great weather, albeit a
little foggy Saturday morning.
The rail traffic was heavy as always. Unfortunately, there were
no gray maroon and yellow diesels present. But an EL caboose !!! For
anyone who stopped by the station on Sunday before their trip home, it
ran east on the local job and returned a bit later. Glad we waited for
that one.
I'm sure that it was an unforgettable weekend for all who were
fortunate to be there.
Thanks again.
