Speculation of what if EL existed and how it would repower its equipment for the numerous branches is interesting. However, if EL had continued on, or maybe continued under a partnership/ownership of ATS&F, it would have probably abandoned many of these branches as Conrail did. The local service would probably have disappeared with bulk-transfer stations established along the mainline with trucks delivering to local customers. Probably the B&P would have continued because of the cement traffic and maybe the Cleveland branch but most other lines would have disappeared.
