In reference to your post concerning EL replacement locomotives: Hornell was geared up to build some RS-3m's. The plan (official or un-official) was to take some of the problem 900 and 1000 series RS-3's and repower them with 567's from the E-fleet that was no longer required. I suspect that 825 and 833 and perhaps one or two others may have survived for specials and board type trips. I frequented Hornell Shops quite a bit and the MM was planning on extending the program that produced I think it was the 2nd #1004 and the # 1057. Would GP-15-1's ever be on the roster? I suppose so, as Hornell would not be able to produce as fast as required. It was previously reported on this forum that a C-415 was tried out in Meadville and other locations, so some thought must have been given to replacement switching units. I suspect the EL would have harbored GP-15-1, SW-1500 as well as GP-38 and GP-38-2's. smt ------------------------------
