Dear Group, Following from the recent discussion about what happened to the wrecked FT, and EMD trade-ins... I began to speculate whether EL would have been a customer for GP15-1s as replacements for the remaining F units and first-generation Geeps. According to Hundman Publishing's "EMD's GP15" by Dave Peck, the first GP15-1s for CNW and MoPac were built in June 1976, just after C-day. Of course, Conrail did what EL did not survive to do, and took delivery of 100 GP15-1s in 1979. Although I often think of the EL as the "big power road" of the northeast, it did have many small light-duty branchlines to serve. Those first-generation Geeps, RS2s and RS3s couldn't last forever. So, my guess is, had the EL continued operation, the GP15-1 (or even GE U18Bs) would likely have served well on EL lines. Opinions? Cheers, Alan <quahog_@_sprint.ca> ------------------------------
