Folks,
The photo in the centerspread of the new "Classic Trains" magazine that
Dick Honeyman mentioned is the same one that appears in Mike Schaefer's
"More Classic Railroads." It's a posed Jim Shaughnessy shot that shows EL
train NE-97 posing atop Starucca Viaduct while D&H train RW-6 pulls out of
the siding below. Amazing that TWO railroads would cooperate with a railfan
here! :) [though to Jim's credit, he *did* write the definitive D&H book!]
Of note in the photograph, however, are a few things:
* The EL diesels (SD45s 3628 and 3627, and U33C 3308) are absolutely
SPOTLESS, and are gleaming in the sun. The D&H units are almost as spotless!
* Third car back in the train is EL 21563, a good example of an
Erie-constructed "Dunmore" covered hopper
* Sixth car back appears to be one of EL's GATX-built RBLs
Cool photo!
