Re: (erielack) 0-8-8-0 Camelback cont.

Speaking of triplexes - MTH has released an Erie triplex in 3-rail O. Has
anyone seen this model and can you tell me how accurate it is?

| Mike,
|
| I owned one of these models in the mid 1980's in "HO", but it was made by
NJ
| Custom Brass. Their version was very nice. These locos were only used on
| Susquehanna Hill to push to Gulf Summit and were basically replaced by the
| triplexes. Every now and again you will see a shot of one of them in Port
| Jervis, but that is rare. These locos were not too successful on the Erie,
| but not so on the neighboring D&H which had several of them in the 1600
| series. They were the "Angus" wheel arrangement but were rear cabbed. D&H
| president Loree borrowed one of the Erie jobs to push on Ararat and like
it
| so much he bought some for his road. The were rebuilt with the standard
| European D&H appointments and were assigned to Ararat and Binghamton
where
| they worked daily until 1952.
|
| I bought mine in 1985 for $500 and sold it to a brass dealer in 1991 for
| $675, using that money as a springboard in the wonderful world of "O"
| scale!! In fact, Sunset is doing a two rail "O" version of the Erie loco
due
| this fall for the moderate sum of $1400. Given today's economy and the
ever
| increasing sums that people are willing to pay for "HO" I suppose that the
| Overland piece is a good deal for anyone that is interested?
