It won't "connect all the dots" for you, Tim, on this topic, but both Morgan
and Harriman have been written about lately

_J P Morgan_ by Jean Strouse, and

_E H Harriman_ by Maury Klein

Both of these are excellent reads, but FWIW, the Harriman book is the one I
will reread someday.  They were both amazing men, and both, but especially
Harriman,  were largely misunderstood in their own lifetimes.

Is there a good book out there on the 1900-1940 period on the Erie?  The
mention of Erie President Underwood and J.P. Morgan is interesting.
Underwood was a confidant and close ally of Harriman, who was probably
Morgan's biggest enemy around 1900.  A lot of key Erie and anthracite
railroad events happened in this time frame with these men involved.  I
just haven't seen the dots connected.
