Restoration of the Erie Railroad signal tower and depot in Waldwick, N.J.,
is the focus of All Aboard Waldwick, a committee established by the Waldwick
Historical Society.

Both the Queen Anne-style tower, built in 1885, and the depot, built in
1886, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The borough's
preservation effort began in earnest after a $6,000 donation to purchase the
tower was given by the great-great-grandson of an Erie Railroad engineer
based out of Waldwick at the turn of the century.

The town was once the site of a six-track yard, wye, and four-stall
roundhouse used to stage commuter trains on Erie's Main Line, Newark Branch,
and Bergen County Line. Today, the line is owned by New Jersey Transit,
including the land occupied by the tower and depot.

The committee is raising money to restore the tower, and is developing plans
for a museum and other uses for the two structures. For more information,
