This is the old NJ & NY RR Pascack Valley Line, acquired by Erie, survived
through E-L and still running under NJ Transit (though minus the Stillwells!
:) ). I am interested in modeling aspects of this line in HO scale and would
appreciate advice about any commercially produced models that could be used.
For example, are there quality, accurate Stillwell coaches/ combines
available? There are some listed in the Walthers catalog (ie Funaro and
Camerlengo p.226 2000 book) but I'm not sure about them. Also, it was listed
"less couplers and trucks". What are the accurate model trucks?
The poster above also mentions working on a model of a Pacific. From posts
here before, I have gathered that some of the Pacific models are not accurate
to the Erie prototype (wrong tender, etc) I'm not "rivet counting", but would
like reasonable accuracy. What is the best Erie Pacific model available
commercially?
Also, what was the typical consist of a Pascack Valley Line train in the 40's
and 50's (# of coaches, combine?, express reefer/ boxcars?)
Now, to the poster above, I have not found many written materials on the
Pascack Valley Line, except for the book of the same name. It has some good
pictures of the stations, locomotives and cars (including Stillwells) but is
short on history, details and, according to some in this message group,
accuracy. I have said before that it would be very beneficial if people on
this group- both beginners and lifelong railroaders- shared and compiled
their knowledge and experiences into a written work. Many of us, including
myself, take time to look around and dig up history and facts that could be
interesting and beneficial to all. I have learned so much from reading these
postings over the past year and I would like to share my thoughts with
others- and learn more. If there is anyone interested in the Pascack Valley
Line, or the NJ & NY RR, please contact me at "stgcomm_@_aol.com." I am moving
next month to Rockland County, NY, not far from the long-gone Summit Park
station and hopefully will be able to post pictures of New City Branch
remnants when I get a good digital camera.
