(erielack) ELHS convention quick update, and "Celebrate the Century" Express at Whippany...

Just a quick update, since I'm swamped with work this week:

ELHS convention day #2 (Saturday) had many good speakers and an excellent
night photo session at the LA&L enginehouse in Lakeville, starring C424m 424
(ex-EL 2401) and C424m 423 (ex-EL 2407). The model contest entries were all
simply phenomenal (and list member Matt Forsyth brought his "under
construction" O scale DL&W steam locomotives, too - very cool!)  Bill Burt
was the banquet speaker, and gave a detailed view of how the Conrail
monopoly came about.

Day #3 featured an excursion on the Ontario Midland Railroad - the excursion
train was bracketed by an Alco RS11 and RS18, and the noise of the
locomotives was quite impressive!

More when I get a chance for a real update, as well as photos (I have mine
developed from the weekend already)


By the way, I just drove past the Whippany Railway Museum on the way back
from lunch, and the Celebrate the Century Express is there now. Eye-catching
and somewhat gaudy, but whatever works, I suppose. It has a very nice
heavyweight obs car on the end, too...
