On page 21 of Erie Railroad in Color by Sweetland are tow pictures of K-1
2524, the engine the Erie donated to the Korean American Foundation. It is
shown in 1954 on its test run after being overhauled. It has a white
diamond herald on the tender and "ERIE" spelled out in white on the cab
sides. The caption notes that the overhaul was supervised by an ex-Erie
employee in the 712th Railway Battalion.
I was in Korea about ten years later. Although the Korean National Railways
was still running steam (and beginning to dieselize with SD units), I was
never able to locate this engine.
Rail lines rail out from Seoul sort of like the Erie did from Jersey City.
While I was there, KNR built a line between two of the "fingers", making a
prototypical "loop" operation.
