I am sorry to say that the fate of Erie steam locomotives seem to be the same
as Third Avenue Railway trolleys. Those TARS cars that weren't scrapped went
to Austria, Central and South America. The Erie steam locomotives that were
saved, I believe, went to Korea.
Lucky for TARS fans, three trolleys were saved at Branford and two came back
to the USA from Austria and have homes at Branford and Washington, DC. The
Erie fans have not been so lucky. To my knowledge no steam locomotives have
been preserved. I believe that gas electric 5012 and some Stillwells are the
only survivors from the steam era that we know of.
I have two ideas. Perhaps trying to contact Korea (If it is the friendly
side) and other countries to see the disposition and possible existence of
Erie steam locomotives.
The other may be to see if any Grand Trunk Western pacifics exist. Some of
them look so Erie. Unfortunately, one was scrapped by Chicago's Metra. Are
their any others left?
I hope this helps.
