As part of the Celebrate the Century Express visit to the Morristown & Erie
Railway at Whippany, the Tri-State Chapter NRHS is sponsoring a night shot
for Saturday, September 23rd at the Whippany station. The USPS police will
have the train and locomotive available for us, unobstructed, and a
Morristown & Erie locomotive will be part of the scene. This is the only
public night photo session yet arranged for the specially painted train and
equipment. Tri-State has a special bond to the train, since Amtrak mechanics
in 1998 visited Whippany to evaluate Tri-State's Lackawanna baggage car 2038
to accompany the vintage RPO and P42 locomotive. The baggage car and restored
caboose 896 will be open and on display that weekend, in addition to sharing
the spotlight with the USPS train at the Hoboken Festival September 16-17
weekend.
Nite shot capacity is limited and people are already signing up. The fare is
$20. To sign up, visit the Tri-State web site at
www.tri-state-rail-history.org or come to the meeting on September 14th at
the Honeywell (former-AlliedSignal) corporate headquarters building on
Columbia Turnpike just of Route 24 in Morris Township.
Pardon the shameless plug, but at the September 14th meeting former-R&R
editor Jim Boyd will be showing rare slides of Alco PAs and DL109s, many of
which are not included in his new PA book just out from Morning Sun Books.
He'll be signing copies of the book; so bring your own or purchase them
there. This is a one-time showing of the PA slides. Admission to the
meetings is free, and all are welcome.
