Three Lackawanna wood hacks were known to have received EL paint, the dipped
red scheme: C849, C838 and C818. The latter was burned in Utica in EL paint.
The 838 saw some EL service on the Laurel Line. The 849 still exists, and
was recently sold at auction in South Williamsport, Pa., but offhand I don't
recall where its assignments were in the EL days. (Anyone know who bought
this caboose, and their plans for it?) The 849 also got modern trucks on the
EL. Would appreciate knowing about any other DL&W wood cabooses that got EL
paint.
The 600 through 754 were built on the passenger trucks, while the 755 through
849 were built on Bettendorf T-section caboose trucks, identical to the
trucks on New York Central wood cabooses.
