That location is about 100 feet west of the "Marion" sign. The building and
smokestack are still standing.
The view is looking North and Journal Square is to the right. Today this
area to the left of the smokestack is a parking lot. I believe that this
area was the original ROW for the Paterson and Hudson River RR to connect
to the New Jersey RR. The cut through Bergen Hill was jointly built to give
access to J.C. I assume this arrangement lasted until the ERIE built the
Bergen tunnel, which I think was 1865.
