You're allotting 12 minutes from Scranton to Del Water Gap?!? Is this in =
a
low-flying jet?!?
> Water Gap to Lake H (Port Morris) time is a bit more reasonable. But th=
ere's
NO way you'll be seeing trains make the Scranton-Del Water Gap run in 20
minutes! Heck, taking the Route 80/380 way, it's at least 45 minutes from=
 the
Gap to Scranton (and that's doing 65+ the whole way!), and the route isn'=
t
that much longer...

Checking the EL timetable from 10/25/1964, the distance between Scranton =
and
East Stroudsburg (DWG was closed by then) is 51.5 miles. Due to curvatur=
e of
the line (I think there are 3 complete circles of turns) they scheduled 7=
0 to
88 minutes for the run with 2 stops (Pocono Summit and Cresco). I think =
there
is an HOUR that got omitted from his projections here, for 12 minutes wou=
ld
require 257.5 mph; 20 minutes would still require 154.5 mph. He's propos=
ing
HHP engines, but there is no catenary in the plans (anyone have another $=
400
million to spare?) =

The PHOEBE took 3 hours 15 minutes from Hoboken to Scranton and 3:10 back=
=2E =

Presumably the first two columns are morning and the others evening? It =
makes
no sense to run four trains within 30 minutes; the demand isn't THAT grea=
t. A
more sensible schedule would have trains leave Scranton every hour (or mo=
re)
between 3:30 and 7am or so, with a mid-day and evening run. The mid-day =
gets
people to New York for theater, sports, etc, and the evening supplies
equipment for a midnight return from the theater, sports, etc. That then=

becomes the first train down in the morning!
